WARNING SIGNS

  • Noticing an increase of missed workdays, mostly not showing up on Mondays, and leaving early and/or randomly throughout the day.

  • Finding empty alcohol bottles in the workplace and smelling alcohol on your employee at work.

  • Noticing an employee go to the bathroom many times throughout the day, and staying in the bathroom for long periods.

  • Watching patterns of your employee having hangovers, withdrawals, hands shaking, cold symptoms, rubbing their nose, borrowing money (sometimes the day after pay-day), and coming into your office appearing to be intoxicated.
  • Having to search for your employee, noticing ongoing disappearances and late lunches, and receiving many excuses employee for absences.
  • Catching your employee in lies and inappropriate interactions with other employees, theft related issues, and legal liabilities.

 

Having a drug/alcohol free workplace is important for the company and the wellbeing of other employees. Addressing and interfering when necessary, in order to benefit the health of all employees, is critical in creating safety and security within your company as well as maintaining a successful business and/or organization.

 

Studies have shown that marijuana, cocaine and prescription medications are the most common drugs used by employees in the workplace. Alcohol is most often consumed after work, and the effects of alcohol in the workplace are mostly related to absence and/or poor performance.
